Award nomination deadline coming up

With a week to go before the deadline, the local “Citizen of the Year” committee is looking for more nominations from the public.
“It’s on a roll,” said committee member Bill Gushulak, who won the award last year. “Let’s hope we can get as many nominations as possible.”
Anyone who has taken on charitable fundraising, organizing community events, or just lending a helping hand is eligible for the award if they are nominated by a fellow resident by 4 p.m. next Friday (Oct. 26.)
“There have been a number of sheets picked up. We haven’t divulged any numbers, but we can say some have gone out and some turned in,” noted Gushulak.
Nominations require basic information about the nominee as well as a brief essay as to why that person should be voted Citizen of the Year.
Gushulak joins Mayor Glenn Witherspoon, Coun. Deane Cunningham, and Mark Kowalchuk, another former Citizen of the Year, on the selection committee.
Nominations have been sent out to local service clubs and also are available at the Civic Centre. For more info, contact Gushulak (274-3891) or Kowalchuk (274-9118).
