Arthritis walk slated tomorrow

Doris Pelletier, a member of the Arthritis Society’s “Joints In Motion” team, is now heading up a “School-Wide Walk” fundraiser tomorrow in memory of her “arthritis hero,” Darrell Webb, who passed away earlier this year.
After postponing it last Friday due to bad weather, the walk will start tomorrow at 9 a.m. at Robert Moore School, where Pelletier works as an educational support personnel with the Special Ed. department.
“We invite the community to come out and walk with us,” she said yesterday. “Hopefully, it won’t be miserable weather like last Friday.”
All district schools, as well as day cares, individuals, and groups, are invited to join in this fundraiser. For more information, Pelletier can be reached at Robert Moore during the day or leave a message at 274-2833.
Donations to the Arthritis Society are being collected at Safeway, Gagné Pharmacy, and at the Fort Frances Times office, she noted.
Pelletier stressed that funds raised in the north benefit the people of the north through “no-cost” programs, educational services, and access to cutting-edge research.
Two years ago, Pelletier raised $8,414.08 for the Arthritis Society. She also participated in her first “Joints In Motion Marathon” in Dublin, Ireland.
She currently is training so she can participate in her second “Joints In Motion Marathon,” which is being held Dec. 5 in Lisbon, Portugal.
She is expected to walk/run the 42-km (26.2-mile) event and bring home a medal in honour of Webb, who suffered from rheumatoid arthritis.
