Armstrong hired as new fire chief

The town’s Personnel Selection Committee is pleased to announce that Gerald Armstrong has accepted the position of fire chief for the Town of Fort Frances on a permanent basis, effective July 24, 2006.
Armstrong has been acting in an interim capacity, replacing Steve Richardson since the middle of May.
Armstrong’s career in the Ontario Fire Service began in 1975 as a firefighter with the Fort Frances Fire Dept. and continued through to 1986 when he accepted the position of fire protection advisor, and later, fire and safety specialist, with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office.
Upon Armstrong’s retirement from the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office, he has been working as an associate instructor for the Ontario Fire College on a contract basis.
Armstrong brings with him 30 years of experience in fire service administration, suppression, public education, emergency response, fire protection, and supervision.
Throughout his career, he has worked closely with Fort Frances and other full-time, composite and volunteer fire departments in the province of Ontario.
Armstrong is a long-time resident of Fort Frances, and along with his wife, Peggy, they have two grown children, Melissa and Jim.
Congratulations, Gerry, and welcome to the management team of the Town of Fort Frances.
