Armed robber strikes again at local store

After Sparky’s Confectionery was held up Wednesday night, a person of similar description robbed Rainy Lake Sports and Tackle on Thursday evening, Fort Frances OPP reported.
A male suspect entered Rainy Lake Sports and Tackle, located at 715 Colonization Rd. E., shortly before 8 p.m.
Brandishing a handgun, he demanded money from the attendant.
The suspect left the store, entered the passenger side of a vehicle parked near the rear of the Harbourage on Second Street East, and fled the scene.
The suspect is described as being about 5’5” tall, and was wearing dark bulky winter clothing. His face was obscured.
A second suspect is believed to have been driving the getaway vehicle.
Anyone who may have observed the suspect vehicle in the vicinity of Rainy Lake Sports and Tackle, either parked on Second Street East or Third Street East, or has any other information regarding this crime, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Crime Stoppers will pay up to $2,000 for information leading to the arrest of offenders. Total confidentiality is assured.
The armed robbery at Rainy Lake Sports and Tackle is the latest in a series of hold-ups here dating back to September.
Before the robbery at Sparky’s last Wednesday, that same store was robbed Dec. 4. A suspect fitting a similar description also had entered Franko’s Grocery earlier that evening and demanded money from an employee, but did not obtain any.
And back on Sept. 22, a suspect fitting the same description held up the East End Confectionery brandishing a black handgun. He was given an undisclosed amount of cash and then fled the store on foot.
Fort Frances OPP is being assisted by the OPP’s Northwest Criminal Investigations Unit in this investigation.
