Area seniors still waiting for long-term care beds

Press Release

Kenora-Rainy River MPP Howard Hampton on Monday asked the minister of health and long-term care how much longer the seniors who currently are at Lake of the Woods Hospital will have to wait for long-term care beds.
“Twenty-seven alternate level of care patients in medical surgical beds are seniors who are waiting for long-term care beds,” Hampton noted.
“Some of these seniors have been waiting for five months–130 days.
“How much longer will they have to wait before a long-term care bed becomes available?” he wondered.
The McGuinty government continues to talk about “supportive housing” and “home care,” but it is just that—talk!
“There is not enough supportive housing to accommodate those in need,” Hampton stressed.
“Proposals from Kenora, Rainy River, and Fort Frances have all been ignored,” he charged.
“How long are people supposed to wait when they’re not getting a positive response from the Northwest LHIN?” Hampton asked.
