A Sabaskong First Nations man was identified as the victim of a fatal motor vehicle accident late Tuesday afternoon near Kenora.
Robert Kelly, 61, was eastbound on Highway 17 when his vehicle crossed into the westbound lane for an unknown reason and collided with a tractor-trailer just west of Clearwater Bay around 5:30 p.m.
Kenora OPP said the driver of the tractor-trailer was unable to avoid the collision.
Police said Kelly was taken to Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Both the Kenora and Clearwater Bay fire departments attended the scene to assist with extricating Kelly from his vehicle.
The accident closed Highway 17 for about five hours while police investigated.
