Band council members and staff of a First Nation community in Northwestern Ontario will strengthen their knowledge about economic development to attract and keep business in the community.
Naicatchewenin First Nation is receiving $9,000 in funding from the Northern Communities Investment Readiness program (NCIR) for two training workshops that will cover:
•analyzing the community’s current economic performance;
•identifying the community’s specific goals;
•priorizing potential investment opportunities; and
•completing a strategic economic development plan.
“Through these educational workshops, Naicatchewenin First Nation band council and staff will be equipped with the tools they need to focus on increasing business investment in their community; putting them in a position to move forward with a strong economic development strategy,” said Northern Development and Mines minister Michael Gravelle.
To date, more than $1.5 million in Northern Communities Investment Readiness funding has been approved for 162 initiatives.
