Architect, designer chosen for new Robert Moore

The Rainy River District School Board has chosen Evans Bertrand Hill Wheeler Architecture Inc. as the architect and designer for the new Robert Moore School here.
“We’re doing all the preliminary stuff, the drawings and whatnot, now. We’re just starting all that,” said Raymond Roy, the board’s manager of plant operations and maintenance.
Schematic drawings for the new school will be ready by the end of October, he noted, adding the process includes presenting each step to the board’s building committee for “some fine-tuning” along the way.
“We just had our first meeting there a couple weeks back, and we’ve got meetings scheduled almost every month, and we’re just narrowing down the scope of the work,” Roy explained.
While an exact site has not been decided yet, the new school will be located at the back end of the current Robert Moore School property.
“We’re hoping to have the tender out by next spring, with construction to start early next summer, and then hopefully opening the school in September, 2010,” said Roy.
The new school will be a consolidation of both the existing Robert Moore and F.H. Huffman, which is closing its doors.
“Our intent is to build the school and have it open and then move the kids from the existing school in there,” said Roy. “The kids will always be in one building or the other.”
Once the transition is completed, Roy said the existing Robert Moore School will be demolished—something that probably won’t happen until 2011.
