The Fort Frances Horticultural Society is seeing who’s got the best “green thumb” when it stages its annual flower and vegetable show tomorrow.
Running from 2-8 p.m. at the Robert Moore auditorium, organizers are hoping exhibitors once again will get creative since this year’s theme is “Storybook Gardens.”
“The theme comes from the entries we have lined up,” said society president Vivian O’Donnell.
“We have 12 arrangements, including ‘Sunshine and Shadows,’ ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,’ ‘The King and I,’ and ‘Anne of Green Gables,’” she noted.
O’Donnell added these arrangements do not have to be created with flowers and other materials grown by its exhibitor, unlike the house plants, vegetables, and individual flowers which also are part of the competition.
“For instance, you can borrow your friend’s red flowers if you don’t have any,” she explained.
Judging will take placed in the morning, after which the public is welcome to check out the exhibits. Tea, coffee, and dainties will be served.
O’Donnell said the show has become a long-standing tradition among local gardeners.
“Because we have some older members who can’t do as much as they used to, and have fewer new members joining, I think our shows are getting smaller,” she admitted.
“But we hope to have a good show.”
