Annual chili cook-off goes tomorrow

Forget Hollywood—“Chiliwood” will be the place to find the stars tomorrow during “Great Canadian Chili Cook-Off.”
The “cast” of nine teams, which will be serving up chili from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Legion, include:

•Community Living Fort Frances and District;
•Flint House;
•Fort Frances Tribal Area Health Services;
•Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access Centre;
•Green’s Brand Source;
•M&M Food Market;
•New Gold and Emo Inn;
•TD Canada Trust; and
•Wasaw Enterprises.

The chili cook-off once again is being hosted by the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce.
“I’m hoping we get a lot of people out,” said executive director Jennifer Soderholm.
She added the fact the cook-off is taking place later in the day should open it up to more families and others who couldn’t make it to the lunchtime/early afternoon event held in previous years.
The theme is “Chiliwood” and teams are expected to get on board with some Hollywood razzle-dazzle.
While not all of the teams have submitted their chili names yet, Soderholm noted some of them so far include “Top Gun Chili,” “Some Like It Hot Chili,” “GHAC Production Crew Chili,” and “Blazing Saddles TD Chili.”
The cost is $5 for a bowl of chili (includes bun and a drink) or $7 for a sample platter.
As in past years, those who purchase the platter will get a ballot to vote for which chili they think is best.
The winner will get the People’s Choice award
A panel of judges, meanwhile, will taste all the chili and score their favourites.
That winner gets the Judges’ Choice award.
The Robert Moore School breakfast program also will hold a cake roulette from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
