The local Salvation Army’s “Red Shield” campaign got underway earlier this month but is well short of its target.
As such, donations desperately are needed as soon as possible.
This year’s campaign goal is $15,000 but only abut 20 percent of that has come in so far, Capt. Angel Sandoval said this morning.
He said individuals, families, businesses, organizations, and local churches all are encouraged to open up those letters they received in the mail several weeks ago and give to the “Red Shield” campaign, this year entitled “Dignity Project,” as soon as they can.
Tax receipts will be issued.
“We’re asking the community to think about supporting our needy people here in Fort Frances and Rainy River District,” Capt. Sandoval noted, adding he appreciates the businesses that support the Salvation Army but would like to see more of them get involved.
The “Red Shield” campaign provides the Salvation Army with the finances it needs to operate in the community and district, and maintain essential programs like the food bank.
It also has ongoing programs like one that provides personal hygiene products for children.
“We don’t want to short any of those important supports services to families in need,” Capt. Sandoval stressed.
“The reason for this appeal is based on the need of the community,” he added.
“The ‘Dignity Project’ can be a successful program is we have successful support from the community.”
