Book-lovers looking for some bargains will have to wait no longer as the Kenora-Rainy River branch of the Alzheimer Society of Canada’s holds its fifth-annual book sale tomorrow through Saturday (Feb. 26-28) at Revco Carpet here.
The public has been bringing in donations of books since Feb. 17.
But since organizers don’t want to end up with too many extra books on their hands once the sale is over, tomorrow will be the last day that books will be accepted, Margaret Schonewille, executive director of the local Alzheimer Society, said last week.
She’s looking for good-excellent quality books, and won’t accept encyclopedias, textbooks, Reader’s Digest condensed books, and magazines, adding a good way to gauge whether a book is suitable for the sale is whether or not you would want it your own home.
The popular sale will take place at Revco Carpet (950 Fifth St. W.) tomorrow and Friday during store hours, and again on Saturday until 1 p.m.
The public can drop by the store, fill a bag with books, and then make a donation to the Alzheimer Society.
Like all the other fundraising events for the local Alzheimer Society, proceeds from the sale will go towards further promotion of Alzheimer awareness and education in both districts—not to a provincial or national organization.
Further down the road, the annual “Walk for Memories” fundraiser is slated for Saturday, May 23 in Rainy River, starting at the Royal Canadian Legion, and again Sunday, May 24 leaving from the Super 8 Motel here in Fort Frances.
A “tag day” also is planned for Friday, June 19, with volunteers needed.
Let the Alzheimer Society know if you can help with this latter event by calling 1-800-682-0245.
