Al’s snaps two-game losing skid

Al’s Racquet Stringing wasn’t going to lose three games in a row–not if Natalie Desjardins could help it.
Desjardins scored four times, including a natural hat trick in the second half, to pace Al’s to a 6-1 romp over a short-handed La Place Rendez-Vous squad in Borderland Soccer League women’s division action Tuesday night at the St. Francis Sports Field.
Katie Sinclair and Desjardins tallied early in the first half to stake Al’s (3-5-1) to a 2-0 lead.
Myla Angus then netted the lone goal for the Vous (5-3-1) with a high shot to the left side on Al’s keeper Hailey Beaudry to trim it to 2-1 before halftime.
Al’s then poured it on in the second half.
First Sara Kellar found some room before walking in and firing home a rocket to push it to 3-1.
Desjardins then notched her second of the night with a shot to the lower left side of the net to put Al’s up by three.
She followed that up with quick back-to-back tallies to round out the scoring before the game was called early due to lightning.
Beaudry earned the win for Al’s–making key saves when called upon despite battling an ankle injury.
Maggie Jean manned the pipes for the Vous in the first half while Tianna Veldhuisen and Morgan Krueger shared keeper duties after the break.
Al’s will look to make it back-to-back wins tonight when they square off against the Vous at 6:30 p.m. in a make-up game for one postponed earlier in the season.
On the men’s side, meanwhile, the semi-finals have been set.
Second-place Manitou Forest Products (4-5-3) will battle third-place Centra Pipelines (3-7-2) in a two-game, total-goals series next Wednesday and Thursday.
The winner of that will advance to face first-place CJ Contracting (7-2-3) in a two-game, total-goals championship final on Aug. 13-14.
All playoff games will start at 6:30 p.m.
