Fort Frances Coun. John Albanese was re-appointed chair of the Northwestern Health Unit’s board of health for a fifth-consecutive year during a meeting Friday in Dryden.
While it’s not an easy job, Coun. Albanese said Monday that he’s looking forward to another year with the board.
“It’s a pleasure to be a representative on the board,” he remarked. “I thank the members of the board for re-appointing me as chair, and I hope to serve them as best I can.
“It’s a big task,” he conceded. “We represent 19 communities, with 13 health units encompassing an area from Pickle Lake to Rainy River to Atikokan.”
Coun. Albanese noted “public health is going through a period of changes” and that the year ahead no doubt will be an interesting one.
He said the board also is working through the accreditation process which it started last September, adding he expects the health unit to be accredited in 2008.
“And as you know, the LHIN [North West Local Health Integration Network] is taking place also, and we want to wait and see what’s going to happen,” said Coun. Albanese.
“How is public health going to fit in with the LHIN—are we going to be working with the LHIN?” he wondered.
The health unit board holds an election each January.
