Help make a child’s Christmas bright this year.
The Kenora & Rainy River Districts Child and Family Services’ “Adopt-an-Angel” program is kicking off for its 12th year.
The “Adopt-an-Angel” program was developed with the intention of helping children and families involved with the programs offered at Child and Family Services who could use extra support at Christmas time, noted community integration worker Debra Bruyere.
She said the angels will be placed on Christmas trees at The Bargain Store and Walmart in Fort Frances, and at Tompkins Hardware in Emo.
“The idea is that citizens and community members can select the angels from the trees and purchase Christmas gifts for the children,” Bruyere explained.
The program works as follows:
•pick an angel from the tree (each one has a pretend name of a child on it, as well as their age and gender);
•each child will have identified what they would like for Christmas on their “angel” (this item can be purchased at the participating location); and
•when you have picked out your angel’s items, bring them to the cash register and identify that you’ll be purchasing a gift for the angel you’ve selected.
The gifts will be delivered to the children in time for Christmas.
The program will run until Dec. 18.
Last year the community provided gifts to 125 children.
“Thank you to those who help and support this program, and to those who purchase gifts,” said Bruyere.
“You help make Christmas a little bit merrier for the children that we serve.”
She added when people see the management and staff at The Bargain Store, Walmart, and Tompkins Hardware, please thank them for their continued dedication to the program and their assistance.
“Thank you for adopting our angels and Merry Christmas,” enthused Bruyere.
