Fort Frances OPP is continuing its investigation into a single motor-vehicle accident that occurred Sunday around 3:30 p.m. near Nickel Lake Lumber on Highway 11.
The investigation to date has revealed a 2001 Dodge Caravan had been eastbound on Highway 11 when it crossed the westbound lane and drove directly into a rock cut.
After striking the rock cut, the van bounced back onto the roadway, coming to rest in the westbound lane.
The vehicle was demolished, and the Fort Frances Fire Department had to extricate the two people in the van.
The driver, Kevin Littledeer, 26, of Thunder Bay, was transported to La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances and later transferred to Thunder Bay Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The passenger of the vehicle, Charlene Anderson, 26, also of Thunder Bay, was transported to La Verendrye Hospital and later released.
Weather conditions at the time were overcast, but the roadway was clear and dry.
Further information will be released upon completion of the investigation.
The OPP would like to remind all motorists to exercise caution when travelling on area roads and highways. Weather conditions can be variable and unpredictable, so slow down and adjust to changing road conditions.
It is estimated driving error causes 85 percent of collisions. Many of these are the result of driving too fast for road conditions.
Police also would like to remind the public to call 1-800-465-5032 for updates on weather conditions in the area.
