Start the Christmas season with a traditional reading of “A Christmas Carol,” and help the local library.
The Voyageur Lions, in partnership with CBC Radio, will present a dramatic reading of the Charles Dickens’ classic on Sunday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. at Knox United Church.
Heather McLeod, co-host of “Voyage North” on CBC Radio Thunder Bay, will be the guest reader for this first-ever event. Four local readers, including Bob Grynol, Dave Ogilvie, Pat Bird and Val Martindale, also will participate.
The reading will be augmented by traditional Christmas music provided by the Knox United Church choir and bell ringers from Diane Maxey’s community choir.
Appropriate refreshments will be served.
Organized by the Voyageur Lions, the event will benefit the new library building. The club is committed to furnishing an adaptive technology centre for visual and hearing impaired patrons of the library.
This centre will feature equipment such as a video magnifier, speech enhanced computer programs, and digital audio book readers. Large print books and audio books also will be included there.
The Voyageur Lions are very excited to bring this program to Fort Frances. In spite of all the electronic technology we have today, there is something compelling and timeless about the story of Ebenezer Scrooge.
It is hoped to make this a recurring event for Fort Frances.
Tickets for “A Christmas Carol” are now available at the Fort Frances Public Library for $10 each.
