5k run raises funds

More than 200 people took part in the second-ever “5k in May” event hosted by Energy Fitness on Saturday along the La Verendrye Parkway, raising $3,312 for the local “Community Chest,” which helps support district families facing medical expenses.
“The sun was shining, and it was just a great event,” Energy Fitness owner Jackie Lampi-Hughes enthused.
Two years ago, the same event was held in support of the “Just Imagine” campaign that was raising money to have a CT scanner installed at La Verendrye Hospital here.
“We’ve been doing it every two years, and we may just stick with that,” Lampi-Hughes said.
“It’s quite an extensive event to plan,” she admitted.
The run wasn’t based on who won or the best times, with the “Community Chest” being the big winner on the day.
“We went ‘green’ for the whole event,” Lampi-Hughes added. “We actually had biodegradable cups and a specific kind of environmentally-friendly shirt with specific printing thanks to Pharmasave.”
The first 100 people to sign up for the run/walk received the T-shirt keepsake.
In other news, Energy Fitness will host its fourth “Biggest Loser” event beginning this week through the fitness centre while 43 members are off to the Fargo Marathon this weekend.
