A full field of 20 singers will be vying for the grand prize when the annual “Quest for the Best” competition hits the stage next Thursday night at the Memorial Sports Centre.
Sarah Hallikas, with the local Chamber of Commerce office, said many people expressed an interest in performing, with organizers having to create a waiting list because they did not have room to accommodate everyone.
“It’s an exciting list [of singers],” she enthused. “We hope the community comes out to watch and support the local performers.
“It’s going to be a great concert and competition.”
The doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30.
Contestants will be divided into two groups of 10, with each section awarding a first-place prize of $500 and a second-place prize of $300.
The winners from each section then will battle it out for the top prize of $1,000.
In addition, participants have an opportunity to win the show sponsor award ($100), rookie award ($100), audience response ($250), and people’s choice ($300).
“I think it’s going to be a good show,” agreed Chamber of Commerce manager Anthony Mason.
“It looks like the talent that we’ve got is great,” he noted. “There’s some new up-and-coming performers and we’ve got some of the old ones back.
“[‘Quest’] is going to be very successful, just like last year, but I think it’s going to be better than last year.”

Tickets for the show are still available.
“We have sold several VIP tables, and the regular ticket sales are pretty steady,” noted Hallikas.
Regular admission tickets cost $15 each, which are available at the Chamber office and Canadian Tire, as well as at the door.
The VIP tables, which seat eight, cost $180. These can be booked by calling the Chamber at 274-5773.
“They go fast . . . it’s closer to the stage, and you get munchies and table-side service for drinks,” said Mason.
Boston Pizza servers will be in the VIP section helping with the drink service.
“We really hope that people come out,” said Hallikas.
