Two local establishments have raised a glass to charity, through the Craft Cares movement.
Copper River Inn and Boston Pizza signed on to donate a portion of sales to a charity of their choice, from Sleeping Giant Brewing Company beers.
Over the first six weeks of 2020, they raised more than $200, which will be split between the Fort Frances Warming Centre and Community Chest.
“It’s a great local initiative,” said Boston Pizza owner Dale Fortes. “We’re very happy to be bringing it to Fort Frances.”
The pizza outlet had chosen Community Chest as the recipient of their donation. That organization will also benefit from the nearly $2,000 raised by the store’s heart-shaped pizza promotion, where $1 from every heart shaped pizza would go to a local charity of the store’s choice.
“This campaign will be a nice little addition to that,” said Fortes.
The Copper River Inn’s portion of the fundraiser will benefit the Fort Frances Warming Centre, which provides a safe and warm place for homeless residents to spend winter nights.
The Thunder Bay brewery raised a total of $15,590 to be donated to 61 charities and non-profit organizations across Ontario. This is the second year for the Craft Cares initiative, but the first to break out of the Thunder Bay region. This year, 81 locations in 16 communities participated.
“Beer is all about bringing people together. Sleeping Giant Brewing Company is dedicated to supporting our communities where our beer is sold and enjoyed. The Craft Cares movement provides our team with the opportunity to make an impact through our product and give back to local causes that matter the most to our Licensees and customers,” says Sleeping Giant Brewing Company Cofounder and CEO, Andrea Mulligan. “It’s awesome to see so many people, families, children, animals, programs and important causes, benefit from our beer. We are celebrating kegs of happiness today.”
