10 apply for Moffat Fund

Staff

The applications are in for projects under the Moffat Family Fund, with the local selection committee to meet this week to review them.
A total of 10 applications were submitted last month, down considerably from the 20-30 applicants the fund usually sees each spring.
The local Moffat Fund selection committee—consisting of Mayor Roy Avis, Couns. Andrew Hallikas and Sharon Tibbs, CAO Mark McCaig, Linda Hamilton, Marie Howells, and Capt. Angel Sandoval—will decide which applicants get a share of $37,500 in funds to be redistributed to local worthwhile causes.
This is the eighth-straight year the Town of Fort Frances has been allocated money from the Moffat Family Fund.
As in previous years, funding proposals from non-profit organizations must benefit children, families, and the “less advantaged.”
As well, organizations from outside Fort Frances, whose activities don’t directly benefit local residents, will not be considered..
Council will receive the selection committee’s recommendations for approval at its May 10 meeting.
Their recommendations then will be forwarded to the Winnipeg Foundation for final approval.
Successful recipients will receive their share of the $37,500 in late May or early June (their identities will not be revealed until this time).
Nine community groups were selected last year to receive a share of the $43,750 allocated to the town by the Moffat Foundation.
