Town council on Monday night recognized deputy clerk Kathy Lawson for her excellent work.
With Administrative Professionals Day being April 27, Fort Frances CAO Mark McCaig said Lawson “serves the town with distinction every single day,” and he gets numerous comments from the public as to her courteous and professional manner.
Also at Monday’s meeting, council:
•agreed to provide geographic information system (GIS) assistance to J.W. Walker teacher Liane Toriseva, and that her mapping data will be stored electronically by the town and made available to other teachers in the community if requested, and further that the costs of preparing this GIS information be charged against the council’s public relations budget;
•agreed to charge the Northwestern Hockey Camp Canada the rate of $110/hour (plus HST) for its 2016 summer ice rental fee;
•authorized the deletion and removal of Policy 3.14—Suggestion Awards Policy (the purpose of this policy was to have a program whereby a town committee would recommend awards to employees whose suggestions to improve the operations of the municipality have been adopted by council);
•agreed to send a letter providing council’s support for the resolutions put forward by the Town of Lakeshore and the Town of Aurora regarding amendments to limit the jurisdiction of the Ontario Municipal Board;
•referred a letter from Thor and Lisa Ruppenstein, requesting permission to build a garden suite at 1411 Colonization Rd. W., to the Planning & Development executive committee for review and its recommendation;
•agreed to a request from Fire Chief Frank Sheppard to proclaim May 8-14 as “Emergency Preparedness Week” in Fort Frances; and
•received invitations to attend retired Fort Frances Power Corp. director Doug McCaig’s retirement party on May 5 at La Place Rendez-Vous and the local Legion’s annual “Veterans’ Night” on Saturday, May 7 (all members of council were given permission to attend either event if they so choose).
