Lakers fall to Norskies

Alec Severson’s goal with three-and-a-half minutes to go in the second period proved to be the game-winner as the Thief River Falls Norskies edged the visiting Fort Frances Lakers 2-1 last night.
The third-place Norskies (20-12-3-1) opened the scoring just under eight minutes into the first when Bryce Johnson netted his 13th of the season.
Thief River Falls then notched the lone marker of the second.
The Lakers finally got on the board 6:31 into the third on Jakob Ruck’s first SIJHL marker.
But the hosts tightened up defensively from there to hold on for the win.
Bailey Schmitz made 22 saves to earn the victory while Jacob Gnidziejko stopped 31 shots fired his way in taking the loss.
The fifth-place Lakers (12-21-1-1) resume action tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. when they open a home-and-home series with the fourth-place Dryden GM Ice Dogs (18-13-3-1) at the Ice For Kids Arena.
The two teams then will go at it again Saturday night in Dryden.
The Thunder Bay North Stars (27-2-1-1) continue to lead the six-team SIJHL while the Red Lake Miners (24-10-2-0) occupy second spot.
The Minnesota Iron Rangers (3-32-0-0) remain mired in the basement.
