Kitchen Creek Classic set to go

    The annual Kitchen Creek Classic goes tomorrow and Sunday, and tournament organizers are still looking to add golfers to the field.
    “We’ve got about 50 right now,” said Wayne Strachan, director of golf at the course, “and I would think we’ll be around maybe 60, 65, we hope, or more.”
    The tournament, which draws some of the top male golfers from throughout the area, enjoys a field larger and more competitive than most others during the season at Kitchen Creek, Strachan noted.
    He added the room for additional golfers isn’t a concern—only 45 were signed up days before last year’s tournament.
    “There’s a lot of good golfers in the area now,” Strachan said. “The course is in good shape, the greens are good, so it’s anyone’s to win, really.”
    Any golfers interested in competing in the Kitchen Creek Classic should call the course at 274-4653 any time today or early tomorrow morning.
    The entry fee is $110, which includes a prime rib meal Sunday and a  practice round this afternoon.
    The grand prize has yet to be finalized, but Strachan hoped it would be either a gift certificate or cash prize totalling at least $300.
    Spectators interested in watching some tournament golf are encouraged to attend Sunday morning instead of tomorrow.
    Golfers will be out all throughout the first day, but will be flighted for Sunday’s shotgun start of 9:30 a.m.
