Katherine (Katie) Bliss, 76, of Mine Centre, Ont., passed away Saturday, Aug. 16, 1997 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Katie was born May 15, 1921 in Insinger, Sask. to the late Nickolas and Mary Serediuk.
She was united in marriage on Sept. 11, 1946 to David W. Bliss in Mine Centre, Ont. In 1996, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
She was an active volunteer in the Mine Centre area, and was very involved with her family.
She is survived by her husband, David; children, Tony and wife, Louise, of Emo, Ont., and their children, Kim Jo (Troy Calder) and Shane; David and wife, Denise, and their children, Shannon (Derek Jackson) and Laureen (David Searle); Kathy and husband, Bob, and their children, Jamie (Kim), Allyssa, Jasmin, Rob (Kelly), and Stuart (Kelly); Richard and wife, JoAnne, and their children, Todd and Tanis; and Jim and friend, Lori, and his children, Brande, Brittney, and Abraham.
Katie also is survived by two brothers, John (Daisy) of Langley, B.C., and Bill (Edna) of Wadena, Sask.; three sisters, Helen Pindus of Yorkton, Sask., Annie McEvoy of Surrey, B.C., and Doris Law of Fort Frances, Ont.; three brothers-in-law, Joe and wife, Connie, of Mine Centre, Ont., George and wife, Ruth, of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Robert of Mine Centre, Ont.; two sisters-in-law, Francis McKeil of Mine Centre, Ont., and Norma and husband, Ken Ryan, of Toronto, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbours.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Matt, George, and Tony.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Father Michael Lomaszkiewicz officiated, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Pallbearers were Art McMillen, Stan McMillen, Joe Bliss Jr., George Bliss Jr., Ken Carlson, and Ken Cone.
Honourary pallbearers were Kim Jo Bliss Calder, Shane Bliss, Shannon Jackson, Laureen Bliss, Jamie MacDonald, Todd Bliss, Tanis Bliss, Brande Bliss, Brittney Bliss, and Abraham Germain.
