The Kathie Jackson rink is guilty as charged on one count of theft, but they aren’t ashamed about it.
The Fort Frances-based foursome stole the winning point in the extra end to earn a 5-4 victory over British Columbia in its first game at The Travelers Curling Club Championship national playdowns in Ottawa last night.
Northern Ontario trailed 3-1 after five ends but Jackson and her team of third Teresa McFayden, second Leanne Eluik, and lead Jackie McCormick nabbed a deuce in the sixth to tie things up.
The two rinks then swapped singles over the next two ends to force an extra one.
Jackson came through with a perfect draw on her last rock to leave B.C. with virtually no way of scoring with the hammer to pull out the win.
The victory matched Jackson’s win total from the 2013 nationals, when she led Northern Ontario to a 1-5 record.
New Brunswick and Manitoba also won their openers to sit tied for first in Pool ‘B’ with Northern Ontario at 1-0.
Jackson’s squad had just one game on today’s slate—a match-up this morning against the Yukon (0-1).

Northern Ontario then will play two games tomorrow, facing the Northwest Territories at 8 a.m. and Alberta at 3 p.m. (all times CST).
The top four in the two pools will advance to the quarter-finals Friday.
