The fall tea was the focus of the La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary meeting held Tuesday, Oct. 4 in the hospital boardroom.
Convenor Mary Jane Pearson updated the executive on plans for the annual event.
The tea will be held this Saturday (Oct. 15) from 2-4 p.m. at the New Beginnings Fellowship Church, with admission being $5.
Sub-convenors are in place and hard at work. Auxiliary members can expect calls for sandwiches and dainties for the tea, as well as items for the bake table and cookie walk.
As always, there will be a lovely door prize donated by Lowey’s while the centrepieces created by Josie Schill will be available for sale afterwards.
A “Lucky Dozen” penny raffle also will be held, with auxiliary memberships for 2017 to be sold.
Auxiliary president Irene Laing also will be making a presentation to the Riverside Foundation for Health Care.
In other news, Monica Sus updated the executive on the “Spirit of Christmas” fundraiser set for Sunday, Nov. 20 from 3-6 p.m. at La Place Rendez-Vous.
This fundraiser is being held in lieu of the “Lobby Sale” and Christmas cash draw, which usually occupied auxiliary members in December.
The Christmas-themed event will feature silent auction items, many of which will be hand-crafted.
Anyone wishing to donate to the “Spirit of Christmas” can contact Monica at 274-7043 or 271-2839 (cell) or Irene Laing at 274-9560.
Arrangements can be made to pick up items.
In addition to the silent auction, there will be a “Second-Hand Christmas” booth, with Monica advising that she will be looking for donations of gently-used, quality items for it.
In addition, any auxiliary members interested in helping out at the event should contact her at the above phone numbers.
In tuck shop news, Monica said she has renewed the supply of teddy bears that the auxiliary provides for children undergoing surgery at the hospital.
She also advised that cart workers are urgently needed (the cart is taken to the wards and various hospital departments in the early afternoon, and usually only takes about an hour of time).
Meanwhile, social director Janet Lambert, advised the Christmas luncheon this year will be hosted by the Rainycrest Auxiliary on Wednesday, Dec. 14.
Tickets cost $14 each, which will be available at a later date at the Rainycrest office, the hospital gift shop, and Lowerys.
Finally, Samantha Manty, executive director of the Riverside Foundation for Health Care, reported its recent gala was very successful.
About $44,000 was raised for the Special Care Unit at Rainycrest.
