It’s time to take the next step.
The Muskie senior boys’ basketball team will look to make their first OFSAA appearance since 2001 when they take on the Westgate Tigers in the best-of-three NWOSSAA final today and tomorrow in Thunder Bay.
The series opens at 4 p.m. today (EST), with Game 2 going tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Game 3, if necessary, is slated for Saturday at 3 p.m. (EST).
The winner advances to the all-Ontarios on March 9-11 in Timmins.
The Tigers captured the Thunder Bay title with a two-game sweep of the defending champion Churchill Trojans, finishing with a 57-39 win Tuesday in what was considered a bit of an upset after the Trojans went into the playoffs as the top seed with a league-best 11-1 record.
Westgate is a bit of an unknown to the Muskies. A match-up against the Trojans probably would have been preferred considering the black-and-gold beat them 56-53 at a tournament here back in December.
“It’s a bit surprising, but I guess that’s who we are going to play,” Muskie coach Paul Noonan said of the Tigers.
“I was talking to Cory Keeler, coach for Churchill, and he said his guys just didn’t really play that well, so we’ll see,” Noonan added.
