‘Hooked on Talent’ slated next Friday

Music-lovers are invited to third-annual “Hooked on Talent” vocal contest coming up next Friday (May 11) at 7 p.m. at the Backus Auditorium in International Falls.
More than 20 local singers have signed up to compete, including six from Rainy River District.
They are Jodie Brown of Stratton, Trisha Wilson of Barwick, Kayla Lauzon of Emo, and Brittany Hayes, Lisa McPherson, and Karri Tougas of Fort Frances.
Proceeds from the event will benefit local agencies in the Koochiching County area through the United Way.
Talent from Minnesota and Canada will be eligible to win cash prizes donated by sponsors totalling $1,800.
Judges will award first-, second-, and third-place prizes, in addition to new awards of Most Original and Audience Response.
Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for children in advance, and $10 for adults and $6 for children at the door. They are available at Betty’s in Fort Frances.
“The United Way advisory board is working hard to pull this event together,” said member Lori Lyman.
“The success of the ‘Hooked on Talent’ fundraiser, along with employee campaigns, business and individual donations, are critical to Koochiching County charities,” she stressed.
“Attending our event is a great way to support the United Way to make a difference in the lives of our friends and neighbours in Koochiching County.
“It should be a phenomenal night of entertainment, too,” Lyman added.
Also new this year is a raffle, with the first-place prize being round-trip airfare for two to Las Vegas donated by Allegiant Air.
The second-place prize is a round of golf for two at The Quarry at Giants Ridge, an overnight stay at The Lodge there, and a $25 gift certificate to The Timbers Restaurant.
Raffle tickets cost $5 each (U.S.), which are available at locations throughout International Falls.
The draw will be held during the talent contest (you do not need to be present to win).
