Happy birthday, Salvation Army!

On Aug. 15, the Salvation Army celebrated 94 years of service in Fort Frances and Rainy River District.
For almost a century, the Salvation Army has been supporting and looking after the needy in our community. We have provided food, shelter, transportation, medicine, many different programs, funeral and wedding services, and Christian counselling in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Assistance always has been given without prejudice, regardless of sex, age, race, ethnic background, colour, or religious background.
Our programs always have been a highlight in this ministry, and we offer something exciting for everyone. This fall, we will begin a new Bible study entitled “How to Understand the Bible,” will run for 30 weeks on Tuesday nights. We also will be starting our JAM (Jesus and Me) program on Wednesday evenings.
Another popular program is our Spanish classes, which will start in September on Thursdays.
If you are interested in any of these programs, feel free to call 274-3871 for more information.
We would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude for your support over the years. Many families, singles, teens, and children have been assisted in desperate times thanks to the support of our community. Without the consistent donations and many hours of volunteer service, these families would have gone without.
This ministry is here today because of your generosity and we are very thankful.
We also would like to take this opportunity to clear up any misunderstandings regarding the grant received from the Moffat Foundation. The grant we received only can be used for our “Healthy Breakfast” program starting in the 2008-09 school year. It cannot be used for any other programs or services. We want to give parents the opportunity to feed their children healthy breakfast foods, which is proven to give many benefits to children.
Regarding our “Red Shield” campaign, this year was not as good as we expected it to be. We received less support from businesses, agencies, churches, and the public than we have in past years. We would like to remind the community that need is not exclusive to any month. The less fortunate are in need throughout the year and our commitment is to give them anything we can.
Please continue giving generously to the Salvation Army throughout the year. Every donation we receive is spent in Fort Frances and area and not sent elsewhere.
Thank you again for your continued support and we hope we can count on you as we always do. We want to be a part of this community for a very long time!
