Dear editor:
This past Saturday I had the chance to play in my first-ever 3-on-3 basketball tournament and I had such a blast, I felt I needed to send out a big “thank you” to Kevin Gemmell and Rainy River First Nations for hosting this great event.
The event was well-organized, the new backboards and court were top-notch, and the many volunteers who cooked the food, kept time and score, and reffed the games were much-appreciated.
It was really encouraging to see such a cross-section of ages participating (from 13-43), as well as people from across the district and even the U.S. and Manitoba!
It also was pretty amazing that this event ended off with a show from “The World’s Best Dunker,” Jordan Kilganon. Who would have thought that I ever would meet this YouTube sensation, who not only is pretty down to Earth but can dunk while jumping over a 6’5” guy?!
The many youth in attendance were treated to a great event that definitely met its goal of promoting an active lifestyle and using sport to combat drug and alcohol abuse.
Thanks again, Kevin and Co., and I am looking forward to next year already!
Sincerely,
Conrad Dueck
