Greenbank will bring their brand of upbeat folk rock to the stage at From the Grind Up here next Friday (April 15) at 7 p.m.
The Thunder Bay-based group played here last year for the “Harmony of Nations Music Festival” and are coming through again.
“We had a really good time when we came through town last time,” noted band member Jim Breslin.
“So when we were lining up dates for our spring tour this year, we thought, ‘Maybe there’s a way we can get back to Fort Frances?’” he remarked.
“Our good buddy, Nick Sherman, had been doing a show in Fort Frances and so I asked him for contact info,” Breslin added.
“And he passed [Grind owner Ben Morelli’s] name along to me.”
Breslin compared Greenbank’s sound to 1960s artists such as Crosby, Stills & Nash and Neil Young.
They play original, socially-conscious songs with a lot of harmony singing and story-telling elements.
“Songs about Northern Ontario and touring around the country into the States and stuff like that,” he elaborated.
Breslin said he and bandmate Craig Smyth (two-thirds of Greenbank’s lineup) will be playing an interactive set—appropriate for a small coffee shop like From the Grind Up.
And no doubt they will get the crowd singing along with them.
Greenbank has backed award-winning artists like Sherman and Scott Kyle King, and played opening slots for legendary acts Chicago, REO Speedwagon, Leann Rimes, and Cheap Trick.
Tickets for the all-ages show cost $10 at the door.
