The Fort Frances Fire and Rescue Service has evaluated wildland interface conditions throughout town over the past few days.
Following this evaluation, it’s been determined the risk to the community from open-air fires is “high-extreme.”
As such, Fire Chief Frank Sheppard has issued a fire ban for all open-air fires in town.
“The interest of public safety is an immediate concern, and given the weather and moisture conditions, a significant risk to the community exists from wildfire,” he warned.
“Please ensure that no open-air burning is initiated within the community, and please report any occurrence of open-air burning,” he added.
“High-extreme” fire conditions exist across Rainy River District, and most municipalities have placed bans or fire restrictions of some type in their various jurisdictions.
Chapple, Emo, La Vallee, and Morley are under restrictions.
Anyone contemplating open-air burning should contact their respective chief fire official, municipal office, or the MNRF prior to initiating it.
