Fire hazard on the rise

From the MNRF

Three new fires were reported in the Northwest Region by mid-afternoon yesterday.
Dryden Fire #75 was located on an island on Pickerel Arm of Minnitaki Lake, about 50 km northeast of Dryden.
It was declared “out” at 0.1 hectares in size.
The other fires were located in Thunder Bay District and Red Lake District.
There currently are 39 active fires in the region, one of which was listed as “not under control” at last report.
Three were listed as “being held,” seven were “under control,” and 28 were “being observed.”
Four fires were declared “out” yesterday.
The fire hazard is predominantly “low” to “moderate” across the region, with pockets of “high” hazard in the northern portion of the Thunder Bay and Nipigon districts.
Clear skies are expected to usher in a drying trend over the next few days, which should drive a rising fire hazard across the region heading into the weekend.
