Plans are underway for the third-annual “Festival of Frost,” which will take place in downtown Fort Frances on Saturday, Nov. 28.
As such, the Shops on Scott (formerly known as the BIA) is looking for more groups, clubs, and businesses to participate and help make the event bigger and better than ever.
Event organizer Jennifer Horton, owner of Curvy Chick, said the idea is to block off the 100 and 200 blocks of Scott Street starting at 10 a.m., then have activities throughout the afternoon leading up to the Christmas parade at 5:30 p.m.
Activities confirmed so far include “Breakfast at the North Pole” from 9-11 a.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church, Energy Fitness’ “Santa 1K Shuffle” at 10 a.m. (come to From the Grind Up at 9:45 a.m. and wear your Santa hat), 93.1 The Border’s “Burst a Bus” food and toy drive, and photos with Santa at the Fort Frances Museum (bring your own camera).
Friends of the Fort Frances Museum will be giving out free popcorn (donations accepted) and selling their 2016 historical calendar at the museum courtyard from 1-3 p.m.
There also will be sidewalk sales, a petting zoo, free hot chocolate, fire pits, and more.
Stay tuned for more details, such as exact times for when Santa will be available for pictures.
But the fun doesn’t have to stop there, said Horton, noting there’s plenty of room on Scott Street for more businesses and groups to get on board.
“It’s absolutely not too late,” she stressed. “I encourage anybody, even up until a week before, to give me a call.
“It’s never too late to participate. We’ll find room,” Horton added.
“I’m hoping the street will be packed.”
There’s no strict criteria for who can participate.
“If there’s any groups or anybody that’s looking to do any fundraising, why don’t you set up a booth at the ‘Festival of Frost?’” suggested Horton.
She said it’s an ideal opportunity for clubs, vendors, or businesses not located in the downtown area to get more exposure.
Organizers also would like Christmas carolers to come on out Nov. 28 and spread the joy of the season through song.
