Festival ‘highlights’ concert set to go Saturday

The Rainy River District Festival of the Performing Arts will wrap up its 2009 event with the annual “highlights” concert this Saturday (May 9).
Slated to start at 6:30 p.m. at the Townshend Theatre, the concert will feature some of this year’s star performances from the two weeks the festival ran in April.
Rose Bowl winners also will be honoured Saturday.
As well, organizers have many thank-yous for those who made this year’s festival another success.
“First of all, I think we had four fantastic adjudicators,” said festival co-organizer Marilyn Allan. “The kids were happy with them and the parents were happy with them, so we were really pleased with our adjudicators.
“We do want to thank all of the people who help the festival to run,” she added.
“We also want to congratulate all of the participants in the festival because they all worked hard to prepare their works for festival and we appreciate all of the effort that they’ve put into it.
“Plus the parents that support them.”
Performers slated to appear at the “highlights” concert include Andrew Eldridge, Brittany Hayes, Emma Dystra, Raymond Polz, Karrigan Johnston, Cynthia Hudson, Meghan Metke, Anika Alexander, Taylor Shouldice, Connor Pocock, Natasha Petawanaqueb, Kennedy Latimer, Maxwell Williams, Mackenzie Wright, Phoebe Firth, Isaac Firth, James Blattner, and John Jankiewicz.
Rounding out the field will be Jessica Whalen, Shanleigh Fryer, Caitlin DeBenetti, Dylan Ossachuk, Ryan Shouldice, Michael Brady, Courtney Peters, Katelyn Shortreed, Rachel Lipinski, Felicia Schmutz, Christina Empey, Melissa Friesen, Jonathan McCoy, Lauren Davis, Justine Christie, and Lauren Gurski.
Also scheduled to perform are the Robert Moore School Girls’ Choir (Grades 4-8), Robert Moore School Boys’ Choir (Grades 4-8), St. Francis School Choral Group (Grades 4-5), Robert Moore Senior Kindergarten Choir, and Robert Moore School Choral Group (Grades 3-4).
