It was a roundabout way to get back to where he started.
But Ryan Faragher no doubt is pleased with the outcome.
The 26-year-old Fort Frances native had a tumultuous day last week, which culminated with the goalie signing a new one-year, two-way deal with the Anaheim Ducks.
Faragher was waived by the Ducks on Thursday–meaning any other team in the NHL had the chance to claim him.
But after nobody stepped forward, Anaheim re-signed the netminder, who the Ducks first brought on board as an undrafted free agent in 2014.
The new contract was announced by the team on Friday.
Faragher has had an up-and-down season spent mainly with the Ducks’ ECHL affiliate, the Utah Grizzlies.
He won his first four games of this season, and five of his first six, then hit the skids with just one victory in his next 10 appearances.
Faragher also was injured after the rough patch ended, leaving a game back on Dec. 9.
Upon his return, Faragher was loaned to the AHL’s San Diego Gulls on Dec. 29, where he didn’t see any action before going back to the Grizzlies two weeks ago.
The former Fort Frances Jr. Sabres’ goalie and three-year member of the St. Cloud State Huskies is 11-9-0-1 with Utah this season.
He’s sporting a 2.97 GAA and .897 save percentage, with one shutout.
