The Township of Emo has landed some provincial funding to complete an inventory of the community’s assets to help attract entrepreneurs and investors.
Emo will be receiving up to an $4,500 for an “asset analysis” of the town, as well as to hire a person to look at this analysis and give the town more exposure through the Internet to industries and businesses that would like to come to the area, explained Emo Mayor Ed Carlson.
“Basically, [it’s for the] promotion of Emo and what we have to offer to people wanting to invest in our community,” Mayor Carlson said, noting the town will be working in conjunction with the Rainy River Future Development Corp. as well as the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines (specifically the “Go North” investor program).
The mayor said the person hired will be in place around March, and the project is exected to be completed by early summer or sooner.
The “inventory” involves looking at what the community has, such as an industrial park with water and sewer readiness, as well as other types of infrastructure that are in place to help businesses set up and grow, Mayor Carlson explained.
This will be helpful if someone contacts them asking what is available in Emo for businesses since they will have a laid-out set of assets to share with people.
“It will be a good asset for the community to have,” Mayor Carlson said about the project and funding.
“To give us a little more exposure than we probably have been giving, and the information there a little bit more than we’ve been able to give,” he noted.
