Easter cantata in works

Duane Hicks

A listening session–and first practice–for this year’s Easter cantata is scheduled for Monday, March 18 at 7 p.m. at the New Beginnings Fellowship here.
Practices will be held each Monday afterward.
Diane Maxey, who once again will be directing the choir, is asking those interested in participating to contact her beforehand at 274-7309.
This is so she can get them their song books and music, for which there be a small fee (around $20).
“I need them ready to start practising on March 18,” said Maxey, adding she wanted to wait until after March Break to start with the practices.
She is welcoming any new voices to join the Fort Frances Choraliers for the Easter cantata but also will be contacting past participants.
“There’s lots of time to get ready but I am really stressing they need to get in touch with me if they are not on my original choir list,” Maxey said.
“If anybody new is wanting to join us, they need to get in touch with me.”
This year’s cantata is entitled “Hope Alive in Me.”
The cantata is described as “a dynamic collection of Easter songs designed to lead the congregation into powerful moments of worship.”
“These are current arrangements of well-known favourites,” Maxey noted. “So there will be some songs that are familiar and some brand new.”
The cantata itself won’t be performed until after Easter Sunday, which falls on April 21 this year.
Instead, the first performance is set for Sunday, April 28 at 3 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls.
An encore performance then will take place Sunday, May 5 at 3 p.m. at the New Beginnings Fellowship.
