Youth charged in fatality

Around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the Kenora OPP received a call regarding a suspicious vehicle leaving Wauzhushk Onigum First Nation (Rat Portage).
The vehicle was located travelling on the north side of the city and police activated their emergency lights.
The suspect vehicle proceeded to Highway 17A and a Suspect Apprehension Pursuit (SAP) ensued.
Several minutes later, the suspect vehicle came to a stop at the junction of Highway 17A and Highway 596.
A deceased male, whose identity was unknown as of press time, was located on the highway.
A male youth, who was operating the vehicle, was arrested at the scene and taken to the Kenora OPP detachment.
The youth faces several charges, including impaired operation of a vehicle causing death, dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, and flight causing bodily harm while being pursued by a peace officer.
He also was charged with driving while disqualified-court order and failing to comply with a sentence.
The youth, who remains in custody, is to appear in court Sept. 17 in Kenora.
A post-mortem on the victim was to be conducted today.
