We all have mental health and it is just as important as our physical health. I find there is a lot of stigma and misconceptions about mental health. Looking after our mental health and wellness is important, especially right now during a pandemic. We can find ways to help others with their mental health and also help ourselves with our own mental health. Mental health is not always having a diagnosis like anxiety and depression. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. Our mental health affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices in our life. So, what are you doing for your mental health during the pandemic? There are many things we can do to keep our mental health in a positive place. We are all different and have different needs. Certain activities may work for others may not work for you. Exercising, getting out in daylight, eating a good meal, taking breaks from social media, and getting enough sleep are some activities that can help people focus on their mental health. I believe that taking care of your mental health is an important part of your life and has a big impact on your thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Things that help me keep my own mental health in a positive place are getting outside with friends, getting enough sleep, listening to music, spending time with my little brother, and drinking plenty of water. How can you help with their mental health? Helping others isn’t always easy if they don’t want help. There are some things you can do if you see someone in need. Don’t be afraid to ask them if they need help, know your limits and listen to them carefully to what they are telling you, ask them what would help them and ask if there is someone they would like you to contact. When your mental health suffers it is hard to enjoy life. Everyone could benefit from learning ways to take care of their own mental health, support others daily and especially during the pandemic. We all have mental health, we all matter and deserve to have a healthy mind.
