World’s biggest bottle drive slated

Press Release

Want an easy way to help the environment and raise money for a fabulous cause?
Then join the United Food & Commercial Workers Local 12R24 and The Beer Store to help find a cure for leukemia—the number-one disease killer of children in Canada.
On May 26 and 27, donate your empty beer, wine, and spirit containers at any Beer Store across Ontario.
One hundred percent of your deposit refund will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).
Over the last six years, the “Returns For Leukemia” bottle drive has raised an astounding $4.5 million for research into blood cancers as well as support for patients and their families.
It is believed to be the biggest bottle drive in the world!
If 565 empty cases of beer are donated to each of our 440 stores, we should meet our goal of 250,000 cases and be able to donate even more money to the LLSC in 2012.
We are up for the challenge—and are sure our generous customers will help us reach this goal!
“The key to a successful drive is the co-operation and kind generosity of our customers and the dedication and spirit of the volunteers, the vast majority of which are employees of The Beer Store, their families, and friends,” said Rob Edwards, president of UFCW Local 12R24.
“Bring in your empties the weekend of May 26 and 27, and help find a cure for blood cancers,” urged Ted Moroz, president of The Beer Store.
“Your donations will make a big difference!” he added.
Stores also will accept cash donations, or $1 can be added to your purchase as a donation to the bottle drive throughout the month of May.
