On Sunday at 5:40 p.m., Rainy River District OPP officers and the Rainy River District Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the scene of a motor-vehicle collision on Development Road in Chapple Township, near Bolen Road.
The collision occurred when the driver entered the ditch, striking a hydro pole.
The passenger in the vehicle, 25-year-old Marcella Jourdain of Fort Frances, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A post-mortem examination was held Monday at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora.
The OPP continues to work, in conjunction with the Regional Coroner’s Office, OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators, and the OPP North West Region Highway Safety Division, to investigate the collision.
The investigation is being conducted by the OPP North West Region Crime Unit, under the direction of Det.-Insp. Randy Heida of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
The OPP is asking the public to contact police if they observed any motor vehicles driving erratically in the area of Development Road, near Bolen Road, on Sunday afternoon.
