A Mississauga woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident yesterday afternoon on Highway 17 in Hodgson Township.
The OPP said a westbound passenger vehicle and an eastbound pickup truck collided around 12:50 p.m. about two km west of the junction of Highway 622 and ended up striking a rock cut on the south side of the highway.
Police said the female driver of the passenger vehicle, Kaneez Zehra, 45, died as a result of the accident.
The driver of the pickup truck suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the Dryden Regional Hospital, police added.
Members of the Dryden and Ignace OPP detachments responded to the scene, along with fire and ambulance emergency services from Ignace.
The accident, which remains under investigation, closed the Trans-Canada for several hours.
The highway opened to one lane of traffic at 6 p.m., and was completely opened at 8:55 p.m.
