Woman celebrates 85th birthday

With Queen Street Manor common room decorated in pink balloons and streamers, resident Iris Draper recently celebrated her 85th birthday surrounded by relatives and friends.
She was all smiles throughout the mini program, which included a few people reflecting on her life and the singing of several of her favourite hymns led by pianist Mrs. Kendall Olsen and her husband.
Sisters Erin and Brittany Olsen also combined in a duet for “Amazing Grace.”
Looking after the guest book were Brandon and Nicholas Olsen while Rin and Brittany served the guests. Shirley Olsen and Darlene Draper cut the decorated one-layer white cake, which was trimmed with yellow icing.
About 30 people attended, including out-of-town guests hailing from Atikokan, Kitchener, and Minnesota.
Iris’ nephew and family presented her with a silk basket of flowers. She also received numerous greeting cards, and thanked everyone for coming and making this such a memorable day.
Iris had worked at Cloverleaf Grocery for about 35 years, retiring in 1967. She has been a resident at Queen Street Manor since 1985, where she enjoys company and fairly good health.
