Woman attacked by animal

From the OPP

On Feb. 7 around 7:05 p.m., the Red Lake OPP received a report of an animal attack from staff at the Red Lake Margaret-Cochenour Memorial Hospital in Red Lake.
A 38-year-old female had attended the hospital with wounds to her legs, indicating she had been attacked by a “large black dog-like animal.”
The victim had been walking her dog in the area of Edward Avenue in Cochenour (Red Lake) when confronted by the animal. She stepped in between to protect her dog and the animal bit her several times.
The victim managed to kick the animal until it ran back into the bush. She then sought medical attention.
OPP officers attended the scene but were unable to locate the animal.
At this time, police are unable to confirm if it was a wolf or a large black dog.
The Town of Red Lake, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, bylaw officers, and the OPP are working together to determine the best course of action.
The investigation is ongoing.
