The Wheels to Meals seniors held their second-last gathering at the Emo Legion last Thursday, which included a wind-up carpet bowling tournament co-ordinated by Mollie Crozier.
The six teams taking part included the What Nots (Dorothy Mitchell, Marg Leveridge, Evelyn Brown, and Siiri Gallenger), the Golden Girls (Julie Smith, Fran Anderson, Mary Vanderbrand, and Merveline Brown, and the Country Girls (Eva Angus, Loretta Hartnell, Edith Irvine, and Jose Balcewich).
Rounding out the teams were the Four Widows (Mary Lang, Maxine Mason, Kay Neilson, and Vicki DeCarre), Just for Fun (Len Jordens, Mary Jordens, Shirley Pattison, and Lois Labelle), and We Try (Mervyn Alberts, Maurice MacMillian, Marcine James, and Ella Carruthers).
After the dust settled down, We Try won first place with 19 points, followed by the What Nots in second spot with 16. The Country Girls took third place with 14.
The Four Widows were fourth with 13 points, with Just for Fun and the Golden Girls tied for fifth (nine).
Donna Morrish and Dorothy Sylvester were the scorekeepers, and they kept the games rolling along.
The three new bowling carpets were purchased through Tompkins Hardware. But getting used to the rough spots on the surface certainly did not bother the bowlers.
Winners of special awards wereLorette Hartnell (best all-around bowler), Evelyn Brown and Fran Anderson (best bowler without stick), Dorothy Mitchell and Mervyn Alberts (most unique bowlers), and Len Jordens (best sense of humour while bowling).
The final carpet bowling for the season will be held tomorrow (June 5), followed by a potluck dinner.
