Those aged 14-24 are encourage to register for the Weechi-it-te-win Family Services Youth in Transition “Mino Ayaawin” Youth Wellness Gathering slated for March 28.
“It is open to all youth,” said Hilary Morrisseau, Youth in Transition worker.
She noted there will be a number of workshops for participants, such as healthy food choices, healthy relationships/violence prevention, and self-esteem building/bullying and harassment prevention.
There also will be one on cultural teaching on “Walking in two worlds,” as well as a hand drum special and a floor hockey tournament.
Morrisseau explained participants will learn about health and wellness, as well as supporting and empowering youth as they make a successful transition into adulthood.
She said that is what the “Youth in Transition” program is all about.
The pilot project has been running for nearly a year and Morrisseau is hoping it will be renewed.
“It has been successful,” she enthused, adding she’s spent plenty of time working and talking with youth in the community.
The highlight of the gathering will be the keynote speaker—former NHL all-star Theo Fleury.
“We were looking for a keynote speaker and his message really fits,” Morrisseau reasoned.
Fleury is a best-selling author and a healing motivator, with a message of “Don’t quit before the miracle.”
“It’s about hope, about moving forward, about never giving up, even when the obstacles you face appear overwhelming and unbeatable,” Morrisseau remarked.
“From the greatest heights to the lowest depths, both professionally and personally, Theo shares a message about winning it all, losing it all, and reinventing it all over again,” she noted.
The Youth Wellness Gathering will run from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at the Couchiching multi-use building.

The deadline to register is Wednesday, March 25.
