‘We Try’ tops carpet bowling

“Wheels to Meals” holds a carpet bowling tournament for seniors every month at the Emo Legion, with six or more teams participating (depending on attendance).
The program is co-ordinated by Wendy Strom, a certified senior exercise instructor.
Winning this time around was the “We Try” team, which included Inge Szeder, Marveline Brown, Siiri Gallinger, and Maurice MacMillan.
“The Four Widows” (Mary Lange, Kari Upton, Maxine Mason, and Mary Anderson) took second place while the “What Nots” (Marg Leveridge, Ella Jewell, Evelyn Brown, and Joyce Henry) came third.
“This is the highest score I’ve yet seen a team compile [30],” Strom said of the “We Try” foursome.
Loretta Hartnell was named the top all-around bowler, Agnes Waldeck earned top rookie honours, and Mary Lange captured the award for most sportsmanlike.
Also winning individual awards were Merv Alberts and Mary Vandenbrand (unique roll), Mollie Crozier (most helpful), Adelia Guba (most improved); Ella Jewell and Marveline Brown (without stick), and Joyce Henry (sense of humour).
After the prize presentation was completed, the participants enjoyed a soup-and-sandwich meal to complete a day full of fun times. It was excellent exercise.
