Waterbombers sent west

Thanks to continuing rain in Northwestern Ontario, two of the region’s waterbombers and two scouting planes are headed to fires in Alberta.
It’s a different story from two weeks ago, when the region’s fire hazard was listed as extreme.
With the wet weather’s help, Ontario fire information officer Deb MacLean said crews continue to make excellent progress in extinguishing hot spots near Thunder Bay.
No new fires have been reported in Northwestern Ontario over the past few days and the fire hazard is expected to remain low.
Thanks to the current rainy weather, MacLean said fire crews can catch up on training and hold fire prevention seminars with the public.
